When you first register with the practice, please let the receptionist know if you are prescribed medication. If you are, you will need to have a review with one of our Doctors. Please bring your medication or current repeat slip to the appointment.
Ordering your repeat prescription
If your medical condition is stable, your GP may decide to put some or all of your medication onto a repeat prescription. This means that you will be able to reorder your medication without needing to see your GP every month. The list of the medication that you are able to order using this system can be found on the white 'repeat half' of your prescription form. It also shows dates when you can reorder your medication when the GP would like you to have a review and also other important messages. If you require medication that is not on your current repeat slip, you will need to contact the doctor to request it in writing. In line with Government policy, this practice provides 28 days supply of medication at a single time to avoid wasting NHS resources and you will be expected to attend at least one annual appointment for a medication.
There are two ways to order your medication
1) Request your prescriptions online. Ask one of the reception team for a registration form to fill in - or download the form on this page. Once we have received the form we will give you a username and password. You may be asked for photo identification. Simply log in via the link at the top of this page and view a list of the repeat medication you have been prescribed. Select the prescription you need and click the 'Request Medication' button. Alternatively, this service is also available by using the NHS App https://www.nhs.uk/nhsapp All you have to do then is collect your prescription as normal six working days later.
2) Post your ticked repeat slip through the letterbox which is located on the wall outside of the Practice to the left of the main entrance door.
3) Post via Royal Mail marking your list clearly. Allow a week if posting first class.
Why do we not take requests by telephone?
Telephone requests for repeat prescriptions block the line into the surgery for quite a long time, compared for example, with requesting an appointment or a home visit. This means that it is more difficult for you to get through to the surgery in an emergency.
Why do we need seven working days to prepare your prescription for collection at the surgery?
- When a request is made your computer records are consulted to see if you are due for a medication review.
- If this is the case the doctor is asked to see if another repeat can be given before you need to be seen.
- Please be aware that only a doctor can authorise the medications which appear on your list of repeat prescriptions. If you request a drug not on this list the dispenser will need to gain approval from a doctor, which may delay the processing of your request.
Electronic Prescribing (EPS)
EPS enables prescribers - such as GPs and practice nurses - to send prescriptions electronically to a dispenser (such as a pharmacy) of the patient's choice. This makes the prescribing and dispensing process more efficient and convenient for patients and staff. Ask your GP or pharmacy for further details.
Important: If you have completed a pharmacy nomination form (available for your local pharmacy), we are able to send your prescription to them. If you have not stated your preference, we will hold your completed prescription at the reception desk for you to collect.
